Many people throughout history have had the ability to withstand the many challenges and onslaughts that they had to face. There is little difference today in that we also face a significant number of challenges and obstacles or barriers to our daily living. In this article we are going to focus on just the concept and the power of being able to say NO.
NO is a very powerful word. However not everyone is willing to accept what the word means or to understand what it implies. We have to make decisions every day of our lives. Some are of minor importance and others affect us in ways that can drastically alter or change our whole way of living. Our way of life.
Friendships is a good place to start. We are a social society. We do not like being alone. In fact, being alone, especially for extended periods of time, has shown to have deleterious effects on one’s being. So we opt to form friends. They are important in many ways. One needs friends to be able to do things together that either they may not be willing or care to do alone, but with a friend, there is a new found courage to try to do more to explore what life has to offer.

For others unfortunately, the friendships may falter and dissolve. You may ask, what does the word NO have to do with all this? Fair enough question. We all have wants and desires, and hopes and dreams. We would like to be able to share these with someone. It makes life so much more interesting and exciting to be able to do just that.However sometimes the demands of friendships carry a burden that many do not wish to be a part of. From very young we are thrust into social environments that can potentially cause problems. Starting from school, where the need to be a part of a group becomes a huge pressure point. Young girls are particularly sucked into these types of groups or clubs or whatever name you wish to assign to them. Some girls want to join this particular clique and the others respond with a NO. It also applies to anyone who may want to join a club, or get a job. Getting a NO when applying for work can really have a terrible affect, especially for those who have responsibilities.
Friends though offer the most cutting and potentially hurting affect when it comes to some topic or event, or whatever that requires a response. If the situation is one where you feel uncomfortable, or uneasy, or where you may feel it poses a danger to you, and you express yourself by saying NO and the other party now decides you have crossed the line of friendship and feels this is the end of the friendship, this can be devastating.
This is only one very small example of what can happen when we say NO.
